Eskom has since 2005 embarked on a capital expansion programme which will add ±17 000 MW of new generation capacity to the existing net generating capacity of 39, 794 MW by 2018. As a resulted Eskom has invested in the construction of a pumped storage scheme in the Drakensberg, Ingula. All four units in the storage scheme have been synchronised to the national grid and Unit 4 is fully commercialised.
Grounded Media was tasked with arranging a Presidential visit by President Jacob Zuma to the launch of Eskom’s Ingula pumped storage scheme in the Drakensberg. The event was hosted by the Minister of Public Enterprises and Eskom Holdings Chairman, and officially opened Unit 4, commemorating the commercialisation of the first of four units.
Part of the brief to Grounded Media was to host a high-level VIP event that included travel to and from the site in the Drakensberg, a tour of the site followed by an official opening ceremony.
The main objective for the event management team was to conceptualise and implement a successful event including issuing invitations, managing security requirements, travel and transport logistics, guest registration, catering and ensuring the programme on the day ran smoothly.
Grounded Media took a systematic approach to the planning and execution of the event that included 1800 guests and a high-level VIP delegation with specific security and protocol requirements.
Our attention to detail, systematic planning processes, creative staging and event management skills helped to make the Presidential Visit to Ingula Pumped Storage Scheme a huge success.
